Maybe it's a good problem to have, but CMSGA is about to hit 200 members.  It wouldn't necessarily be an issue, but a high percentage of our members want to play in our tournaments.  We have been able to accommodate most up to now, but we are very close to no longer being able to make that claim.  We have always welcomed new members.  I think I know what the most likely response is going to be to this question.  Do you think we should cap our membership at 200?  Please comment (respectfully).

  2. Maybe we could have a tournament on each course. A full field on the main course and the overflow on the other course. Some people prefer one course over the other.

  3. Yes probably 180 would be my cap. There are always some that are disgruntled trying to get a time in the tournaments. Others that don’t care about when they play are more flexible. Some of us are long time (15 to 25 yrs) members and like to play in foursomes with other long time members are finding it difficult to sign their groups up. 180 is my number. Closed until further notice.

  4. I agree that as the club expands, there is a lot of pressure on tee times. The math is simple…..if the course gives us 80 slots, and if only 50% of the 200 members want to play on any given week, then 100 want to fit into 80 slots, and something has to give. We cant reasonably expect the course to give us many more slots, because they have a lot of pressure from the public for tee times. It might be an unpopular strategy, and apologies in advance to the younger members, but we could consider raising the eligibility age from 50 to 60. 50 year olds dont seem like seniors to me…..

    1. Raising the age limit going forward is an excellent idea as well as a 200 cap.

  7. Yes to a cap. It's become more nerve-racking to sign up for a tournament than to face a 3-foot putt IN the tournament!
