Away Tournament - Skylinks - March 29th

After much trepidation and worrying over weather forecasts, the rain cleared in time for us to hold our tournament as scheduled. Wet conditions interfered somewhat with driving range plans, and necessitated CART PATH ONLY rules, but we survived.  The course dried quickly, and it actually turned out to be a pleasant day for golf.  Here are the results:

Flight A:  David Kent is the flight winner with a net 69.  In second place is Tom Ebert, 3 strokes back.  Jim Meyer and Alex Cruz tie for third,  one stroke behind Tom.  With one exception, you needed a net eagle to win a skin in this flight.  Tom Ebert, Dave Basile, Larry Newman,, Arnie Aparicio, and Ed Chavez each won one.

Flight B:  Bret Bauer is the flight winner, with a net 69.  In second place is Thorpe Logemannn  two strokes back.   Third place is a 3-way tie between Boll McCrea, Mike Bekins, and Ed Arnold, one stroke behind Thorpe  With one exception, you ONLY needed a net birdie to win a skin in this flight.  Joe Willis, Jim Alhandy, Bret Bauer, Shirley Skirvin, and Ed Arnold each won one.

Abe Pearlman, Tournament Director

It was fun to have our group together at a different course.  For most of us, the net scores were nothing to brag about.  A less familiar course and cart paths only surely contributed.  It made the few low nets in the group even more unique.  Our low gross honors of the day were shared by Alex Cruz and Dave Kent, each with a 76.  Thanks to Abe for making this tournament happen.

Great day to be out in the California sun.

Winners today were Flight 1 Ron Plummer with a net 69 and Flight 2 had a tie with Bret Bauer and Kent Cowgur with net 68s.  Low gross today goes to Don Spreeman with a 72.

We had 14 skins, 6 in Flight A, 4 in Flight B, and 4 in Flight C. Remember that in skins competition you play off the low player in your flight.

I played in the first group at 7:33 and we finished in 3 hours and 50 minutes.  It may sound fast but there were actually players in front of us that we were following.  Our last group teed off at 10:06 and finished in 5 hours and 35 minutes.  By any measure this is ridiculous!  Please, if you don’t see the group in front of you pick up the pace.  If you can’t catch up in a hole or two skip the next hole and move on.  There are players behind you, that you probably know, that are waiting on you.

See everyone at Skylinks on the 29th,

Ron Plummer, Tournament Director

Thanks to Ron for directing and scoring this tournament.  This round will not be posted to GHIN.  We do have a Pace of Play policy on this website.  If you are behind a group that is out of position, rather than stew or confront, please call the course for a marshal to assist.

March 3rd First Thursday Tournament

March 3rd Results

Another beautiful day for golf, all the no shows did call Bill Cloud and cancelled in time to get a person off the waitlist at the last second.  This indicates what a fine club we have when everyone is conscientious to call instead of just not showing up- That pisses me off.

Second group finished in a little over 4 hours.  One group finished in a little over 5 hours.  There was a 2 to 3 hole gap in front of one group and we encourage those individuals to find another club.

I know the wind gave some golfers a little difficulty but I suggest you save it for your therapist, golf is an outdoor sport.

All in all it was a successful day of hacking-

Ken Otsubo, Tournament Director

Ken being Ken.  Thanks to Ken for directing and scoring.  Low gross of the group was shared by Pete de Boer and Steve Keith, at 74, using the wind as a tool.  Our best low nets were also shared.  Jeff MacCarter and Robert Ou both had net 67's.  John Jurczak, Burnie Presho, Don Crosby, Kent Cowgur, Ted Doria and Tony Ramirez, joined Jeff and Robert among the ties for first at the top of their flights.  Ralph Cruz was our only multiple skin winner.  He didn't win a skin on #8, but he was so close he could have birdied blindfolded and left handed, an inch or so from a hole in one.
