CMSGA is an SCGA affiliate club, with membership consisting of local seniors. Tournaments are held on alternate Thursdays of each month, on either Mesa Linda or Los Lagos - the two 18 hole courses at the Costa Mesa Country Club.
Four-golfer teams will score one-best-ball Stableford* for this tournament. There also will be individual competitions by flight for low gross, low net and net skins. Play is on Mesa Linda.

*The Stableford scoring system is a points-based format. Rather than counting total strokes as in traditional stroke play, golfers earn points on each hole relative to par. The objective is to earn as many points as possible. For this tournament, net scores are awarded 1 point for bogey; 2 for par; 4 for birdie; 8 for eagle; and 10 for an albatross (double eagle). TEAMS SCORE ONE BEST BALL PER HOLE.
Play will be on Mesa Linda. The team format will be 4 players, scoring the 2 best balls net. There will be individual competitions by flight for low gross, low net and net skins.
Tee times and pairings have been consolidated and updated due to withdrawals. Please plan to arrive early. Most times are within five minutes of the original sign up times.

Thursday play was the conclusion of our annual Club Championships.
The winner of the 2026 CMSGA Club Championship (Gross) is Greg Prough. Greg was tied with Alex Cruz after Wednesday play on Los Lagos with 71's. They remained tied, again with a pair of 71's after 18 holes on Thursday. They agreed to a sudden death playoff. They tied again on the first hole, but Greg's birdie on #2 was enough for him to prevail over Alex, our last year's Club Champion. A thriller that should have been televised.
The winner of our 2026 CMSGA Club Champion (Net) is Jim Meyer from Flight B. Jim started the day with the lowest net score to par based on his August 5th round net 66 on Los Lagos (6 under par). His net 71 on Thursday gave him the lowest two day net to par of 5 under. The Flight A Champion is Don Spreeman (3 under par). The Flight C Champion is Burnie Presho (3 under). Our Flight D Champion using the USGA Card Playoff is John Westermeyer over Robert Wilson (both 2 under par, using final 18 holes as tiebreaker). Congratulations to our Champions and their place in the coveted CMSGA Hall of Champions. Greg Prough and Jim Meyer are eligible to represent us at one of the SCGA Tournament of Club Champions in December.
Our one day tournament had 93 players. The team winners were Alex Cruz, Ryan Haeger, Jim Lencek and Robert Wilson with a two best ball net score of 126 (14 under par). Several players were paired across different tee groups, including Robert Wilson, to minimize the need for blind draws.
Peter Hagen shot the lowest single day gross (70). The low gross winners of Flights 2, 3 and 4 were Gary Bennett (76), Peter Cary (80) and John Westermeyer (87). Our low single day net winners by flight were Greg Prough (68), Gary Bennett & John Carroll (tied at 70), Damian Wilkerson and Doug Rustrum (tied at 67) and John Westermeyer (65).
Doug Rustrum won three skins. Bill Walker, Christi Whittemore and Damian Wilkerson each won two skins. Mark Spreeman won two CTP's (#10 & #12)

The Club Champion gross totals are from the scores on September 9th on Los Lagos and September 10th. The Club Champion (net) and Flight Champions use the lowest net score relative to par from our three most recent prior tournaments and September 10th. Eligible players must have played in a minimum of five CMSGA events since last October and have a score from one of the three prior tournaments. All members playing on September 10th will also be in the one day team, individual gross, net and skins competitions.

Our members are welcome to attend our annual membership meeting and luncheon. We are gathering at the Newport Rib Company, 21906 Harbor Blvd, at 12:30 pm, on Thursday, September 17th.
The lunch will be a buffet including BBQ'd ribs and chicken. The cost of the luncheon to members is $20. The club is subsidizing about half of the total cost from general funds (dues). We will likely fill the parking lot, so carpooling would help. Bar service will be available.
We will acknowledge the winners of our 2026 Championships following the preceding Thursday tournament. We will discuss our club's business and plans for the upcoming year and elect a board of officers. We plan to give away an assortment of new CMSGA hats, CMSGA towels left over from last year, and a golf related raffle for attendees.
The first round of the CMSGA Club Championship (gross) was played on Los Lagos from the white tees. Leading after round one were Alex Cruz and Greg Prough, who both shot a 71.
The Championship (gross) deciding round was to be decided by the lowest two day total from Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th round on Mesa Linda. Alex and Greg remained tied after 18 holes, both shooting 71's again. Greg Prough is the 2026 CMSGA Champion after a birdie won on the second playoff hole.
Greg is eligible to play on one of the SCGA Tournament of Club Champions offered in December, with entry fee reimbursed (about $200).

Round one was completed July 16th at Costa Mesa. Our team carried a 42 point lead (273 to 235) into the Final Round. We played on July 22nd at Laguna Woods. The final point lead was 34 points. Thanks to the Laguna Woods team for this 20+ year old competition and hosting us for the final round. Thanks to all the players and co-captains, Bill Cloud and Dave Basile.
It was a warm day of golf 🌞 on Mesa Linda but at least we had a little breeze that made another great day. We had 91 players total and some low scores ✊ I hope everyone had fun out there and enjoyed their round 🏌

It was a good day to play on Los Lagos, with a number of great scores posted, a week or so before the greens get punched. The tournament was initially full at 92 players, plus a small waiting list. On game day, we ultimately had 82 players.
The winning team was John Jurczak and John Gothard, scoring a one best ball 63 net. The lowest gross scores by flight were Marty Burns (74), John Jurczak (80), Jim Meyer (84) and Fred Depaola (91). The lowest nets by flight were Mike Supple (69), John Jurczak (70), Joseph Chien & Jim Meyer (both 69) and Fred Depaola (67). Mike Supple, Jim Meyer, Harlan Andersen, and Al Arnold each won a pair of skins, among the 25 total skins won.
Tim Bjelland and Peter Hagen both prevailed in their semifinal Presidents Cup match. They face each other next month in the flight A final. Damian Wilkerson and Jim Meyer will compete in the flight B final.

Play was on Mesa Linda. Rain and cart restrictions reduced the competition field from 92 to 15. The hardy few were place in one flight for individual low gross, low net and net skins. There was no team competition or CTP's.
Honors went to Dick O'Neil for low gross (75), Gary Bennett for low net (72) and Christi Whittemore & Harlan Andersen for a pair of skins apiece.
