Maybe it's a good problem to have, but CMSGA is about to hit 200 members.  It wouldn't necessarily be an issue, but a high percentage of our members want to play in our tournaments.  We have been able to accommodate most up to now, but we are very close to no longer being able to make that claim.  We have always welcomed new members.  I think I know what the most likely response is going to be to this question.  Do you think we should cap our membership at 200?  Please comment (respectfully).

Summary Results

We played on Los Lagos.  The team format was 2 player teams, counting one best ball net.  Playing handicaps for the team competition were 85% of the course handicap.  Two singles were combined across tee times to form one of the teams.  We also had individual overall net and net skins by flight, using 100% of course handicap, although skin's handicaps are adjusted to play off the low in each flight.  Ron Plummer was the tournament director.

The first place team in the A Flight was Pete deBoer and Gene Ramirez.  Their best ball net score was a 12 under par 60, winning by a margin of 7 strokes.  The B Flight had a tie for first between Ryan Haeger / Eric Brady and Sean McGroarty / Russ Barrett.  Ryan and Eric didn't realize they would be a team, as they were playing as singles in their tee group.  Both teams scored a net 66.

Individual low net winners by flight were  Pete deBour, with a net 68;  Burnie Presho and Eric Gastineau tied, with net 71's;  Leon Tomasyan won, with a net 69;  Bruce Green and Russ Barrett tied with net 72's.

We had 21 skins distributed among four flights.  Winners of two skins were Pete deBour, Paul Hennessy and Eric Brady.

The last Presidents Cup match was played, with Tom Ebert winning the B Flight 6+4 over the other finalist, Joe Willis.  The tournament was extended about 6 weeks more than expected, due to many rain related postponements.  One wish of Jeff MacCarter, who organized the tournament, is that the two flight winners, Dave Wilson and Tom Ebert, will have an ultimate grand playoff match.  If that does happen, we will keep you posted.  Thanks to our many participants.

Also thanks to Ron Plummer for setting up and scoring this tournament.  Only two or three years ago we might only get 40 members to play on Los Lagos.  We had 82 players on the course yesterday.

April 6th First Thursday Tournament Results *Here*

Finally, after a very wet year so far, we had a glorious day for golf.  It was wonderful to see 91 players in our largest tournament this year.  Here is a breakdown of the winning scores in the team event, individual scores and skins:

There were two flights for the team's two best ball nets. In Flight 1, the winning team was Tom Ebert, Jim Thornton, Mike Brennen and Rob Kirchgessner with a combined net of 19 under par. In Flight 2, the winners were Ron Plummer, Doug Kramer, John Westermeyer and Jim Rossman with a combined net score of 24 under par.

The individual net scores were divided into four Flights: In Flight 1, the winner was Jerry Vinland with a net 65; Flight 2, the winner was Tom Ebert with a net 61.(Tom had a gross score of 72!). Flight 3 was won by Bruce Green with a net of 67, and Flight 4 was won by John Westermeyer, also with a net 67.

Joe Willis and Robert Simpson competed in a President's Cup semifinal match. Joe was the winner by a 5 and 4 margin. Congratulations!  Joe will face Tom Ebert in the final.

There were four Skins Flights: In Skins Flight 1, Mike Drennen had 3 skins with birdies on holes 4 and 13, and an Eagle on 14. John Ludlow had a double-eagle (an Albatross!) on hole # 11. This is one better than a hole-in-one on a par 3! That was amazing.  In Skins Flight 2, there were a total of four skins. In Skins Flight 3 there were three skins, and in Skins Flight 4, Shirley Skirvin won three skins with an eagle on hole #2, and birdies on holes 6 and 10.

Thank you to everyone who played, congratulations to the winners, and my sincere thanks to our president, Bill Cloud, for all the help he gave me in running this tournament.

Sincerely, Peter Cary, Tournament Director

And thanks to Peter for directing and scoring this tournament.  Despite the recent green maintenance, we had 18 players score net par or better, close to our usual percentage.  Jerry Vinland set the bar early in the lead group placing his ball about a foot from the hole on #2.  Jerry also had the lowest gross of the day (71).  Tom Ebert gave notice he was having a good day as most players got to see his CTP on #17 about 2" above the hole, a near miss ace, halting in a punch mark.
