Our March 16th Third Thursday Tournament was played in wet conditions. The field was reduced to walkers only, as no carts were allowed. We had 47 players in the stroke play competitions. We divided the tournament purse equally between team results, individual total net and net skins. The Shamble format, along with a lift, clean and place rule and good weather, produced some amazing numbers.
The finals match of one President's Cup bracket was completed. Dave Wilson is our 2023 A Flight Champion, defeating Jim Meyer 5 & 3.
Our lowest gross was a 69 shot by Mike Edles. In the low handicap flight 18 out of 23 players shot below 80. Even the high handicap flight had 8 out of 24 players below 80 gross.
The team of Walker, Kramer, Westermeyer and Chien were 32 strokes under par, using two best ball net scores and 85% handicaps. Kelly, Myers, Whittemore and Whittemore were second at 24 under par.
Doug Kramer had the lowest net of the day at 51 using full handicaps. Second in his flight was a tie at 57 by John Westermeyer and Russ Barrett. The other flight was led by a net 63 from Burnie Presho, followed by Mike Edles with a net 64. Burnie and Russ were also winners of two skins apiece.
These scores will not be posted because of the format. If they were posted they could wreck a few handicaps.
Thanks to Dan Hudgins for directing this tournament. Team events like this are fun. We appreciate the communication from members that allowed us to reorganize and still have so many full teams.
