SLOW PLAY DISASTER- READ THIS NOW!!!!
A group that was allegedly one
and a half holes behind was instructed by a COURSE MARSHALL to pick up
and move to the next hole thus incurring a net bogie penalty for each
member in foursome in violation. THERE WAS NO WARNING!!!
In
order to prevent this type of situation, always keep an eye on the group
in front so if there is any question, you can just point to the group
in front and tell the Marshall "They're right there dude". Keep
repeating this until he leaves. DO NOT ENGAGE PHYSICALLY OR YELL OR
SCREAM EPITHETS OR TALK ABOUT HIS MOTHER.
Slow
play does affect the golf course revenue also and I am sure if we were
able to finish in 4 and a half hours consistently the course would take
that into consideration to give us more tee times-whatta ya think? More
players is bigger prize money.
All in all it
was a great day for golf-sunny warm and mild winds, beautiful smooth
greens and great company. Julie Chien holed out on number 8 for the
first Hole in One this year. Find her for your drink.
Please
check the weather report since yesterday a few people weren't quite
ready for the heat assault and either didn't hydrate or otherwise just
wasn't prepared and struggled to finish, we don't want any members
croaking out there. Come to think about it, we do have 171 members now
so I guess losing a few wouldn't be such a big deal.
Ken Otsubo, Tournament Director
Thanks to Ken for organizing and scoring this tournament. We had large turnout for play. Originally it was to be 84 players, but we had 82 start, and a handful not finish, primarily due to the heat. This heat was unusual, but likely to be something we will face again.
Although we only have a prizes for net scores, the low gross deserves recognition. Alex Cruz shot a gross even par 70, overcoming the recently aerated greens with ease! Our low net flight winners were Chris Aasland, Lon Monk and Joe Willis with nets of 68, 68 and 64. Dick Thiel and Julie Chien won multiple skins. Julie's Hole in One on #8 wins $100 from the club.
A link to our pace of play policy is on this page of our website. It is important to recognize when your group is out of position and take steps to avoid that. We need help from the marshal to enforce this policy. We believe a group should get a warning and a chance to regain position, before being asked to pick up and move to the next hole. If you have not received a warning, you should ask the marshal for a chance to catch up, and then do it.
Bill
