Mesa Linda's green fees will be $49 (Holiday rates) for all players.
Our 2025 attempt to regain the Scotch Cup trophy begins July 10th on Mesa Linda and ends July 16th at Laguna Woods. Our team Sign Up starts now. We need 18 players for each of two rounds. The team roster for each round will be selected on June 9th from the list of interested players. The criteria for selection will be availability, index and recent performance.
I am out of town and am working on finalizing the team selection when I have time, but I missed the planned June 9th target and hope to get this settled soon. Sorry for the delay, Bill
It was a perfect golf day! We had a couple groups that slowed down the pace of play...it only takes a little extra effort to keep up with the group ahead of you; this will help everyone finish their round in 4 1/2 hours.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to Bret Bauer, tournament director.
Our annual 4 club tournament today was fun as always. Great weather, with 80 total players made it enjoyable for all I hope. Being limited to 4 clubs was not particularly challenging for some of us apparently, as there were some very low scores today! 6 birdies on #8, multiple skins in all flights, and a 5-way tie for 3rd place in the team event are examples of how well some adjusted to the lack of club selection available. Congrats to all the winners.
The winning team of Baccaro, Walls, Westermeyer and Kramer shot 11 under par. A score that could win with 14 clubs. The individual scores were slightly higher than our norm, as expected. The low gross winners by flight were Ned Whittemore (75), Bill Cloud & Sean McGorarty (both 82), Anthony Baccaro (85) and John Westermeyer (84). The low net flights were led by Bill Walker & Pete DeBoer (both 70), Sean McGroarty (69), Anthony Baccaro (68) and John Westermeyer (66).
The net skins stars were Bill Walker, Ned Whittemore and Leon Tomasyan winning two apiece. Ned Whittemore also claimed two CTP's (#2 & #6).
Thanks to Dan Hudgins for setting up and scoring this tournament. These scores will not be posted to GHIN. A correction to the team results was made at 10:30 on 5/23/25 showing a five way team tie for second.
Our Second Thursday tournament felt like a summer round. We had 89 players, a great turnout. One scorecard was left in the tournament box for the Costa Mesa Golf Club instead of our senior slot. We did retrieve it a couple of days late. Thanks for your patience on results.
Two teams tied for first. Both were threesomes, who tied at 18 under par using blind draws: R Wilson / Etter / Hooton / (Rustrum blind) and Munroe / Llanos / Bonnie / (Schmieder blind). Individual low gross winners by flight were Alex Cruz (67), George Fisher (76), Dan Hudgins (81) and Joe Mohney (86). Net winners by flight were Bill Walker (66), George Fisher (67), Dan Hudgins (69) and Robert Wilson (65).
28 skins were award. Flights 1 and 4 only had 4 skins worth $22 each in their flight. Flight 2 had 13 skins worth much less. George Fisher, Burnie Presho and Todd Schmieder each won a pair of skins. Wayne Rowell won two CTP's.
Congrats to our winners. Thanks to Dave Basile for organizing and scoring this tournament. Thanks to our members for playing and no unexpected no shows.
We had 4 players that did not show today and as a result I took one of the threesomes and added them to the groups without a fourth. By doing this I was able to only use one blind. We need to come up with some meaningful penalty for no shows.
Beautiful day in SoCal and the first group was a little slow taking just under 4 hours, not their usual 3:30. But all groups finished in under 5 hours today which, for our group, is pretty good.
Congratulations go out to several players today starting with Mr. Cruz with an overall low gross of 68. Mr. Barrett with an overall low net of 61, very impressive Multiple skins, 24, across all four flights. Four players had 2 skins each with one player, Mr. Nevins besting everyone with 3. And the winning Team, by one stroke, were the team of Plummer, Munroe, O Neal, and Hinson. Two of the members of that team, not me, had natural eagles on the same hole.
And for the match play semi-finals Mr. Supple and Mr. Wilkerson were victorious, congratulations to both. See everyone in May and remember the start time on May 8th is 20 minutes earlier than normal.
Despite our tournament landing on a maintenance week, and facing some wind, many were able to score well. At one point, we expected 90 players, but that number plummeted to 76. We lost about 10 players in the last day, which makes pairings and teams a challenge. Thanks to those who played and helped us consolidate our times fairly efficiently by moving. In the end, we had four threesomes that needed blinds for their team score.
The hottest team in brisk conditions was Dave Basile, Mike Drennen, Bill McCrea and Tom Ebert. They scored 13 under par and won by 2 strokes. We had a three way tie for second. Our scorecards did not show the correct team handicaps for our women, but that was corrected before the final scoring.
Our lowest gross score of the day was 71. Three players from flight 1 tied for that honor: Dick O'Neil, Tim Bjeland and Ryan Haeger. The remaining flight gross honors went to Bart Greenberg (79), Doug Rustrum (85) and Robert Simpson (89). The low net standout was Bart Greenberg in flight 2 with a 66. Tim Bjeland (70), Doug Rustrum (68) and a tie between Robert Simpson and Joe Mohney (71) topped the other flights
21 skins were won, with Bart Greenberg taking 3 as the only multiple winner. Bruce Green won CTP's on both #15 and #17.
Two President's Cup matches were completed with Greg Prough and Jim Meyer now in the finals. Their opponents will be determined in matches later this month.
Thanks to Dan Hudgins for organizing and scoring this tournament. Dan is leaving tomorrow to watch his grandson compete in the prestigious National High School Invitational baseball tournament.

We had unusually good weather and course conditions for play. The team of Jim and Sherry Howard won with a best ball net 59. 22 out of 34 teams were under par. Sixth place got congested with a five way tie.
The lowest gross scores by flight were posted by Marty Burns (73 blue tees), Dennis Lyons & John Carroll (tied at 79 blue tees), Wayne Rowell (82 white tees) and Robert Ou (white tees) & Gerry Schomberg (silver tees) (tied at 90). The lowest nets by flight were Marty Burns (69), John Carroll (67), Bruce Green (68) and Sherry Howard (68). 26 skins were earned in the four flights. Jim Howard won 3 and Shirley Skirvin won 2. The rest were solos.
The remainder of second round President's Cup matches were also completed and are posted on the brackets link on that section.
Thanks to Peter Cary for setting up and scoring this tournament.
Not the easiest day to play, but we had 74 golfers take a chance. We found a window between storms, endured a bit of wind and got her done.
We had 68 players in the shamble. We usually pay the top 20% of the field in each category, but we expanded the payout to the top 33% in the absence of the individual competitions. The last payout tier was split between 5 teams, which expanded the winners list to the top 50%, but the payout amount was very diluted. Three second round President's Cup matches were completed, with results on the website.
The best team of soggy turf wind players were Joe Mohney and Don Spreeman (at 9 under par). Followed by a two way tie for second, a four way tie for fourth, a four way tie for eighth and a five way tie for twelfth. An very tight finish which included a wide mix of handicap indexes.
A new competition of team skins using the total net of both balls was also scored, with the hope that it might spread the wealth, but the shamble winners dominated the category, with a few exceptions. The team of Joe Willis and Pete deBoer garnered a pair of skins. Kent Pfeiffer threw a pair of darts to earn two CTP's.
Thanks to Peter Cary for setting up and scoring this tournament. Thanks to you members for keeping us informed and showing up. With weather on both ends of the tournament, this was a great turnout.
The day brightened after a foggy beginning for the early starters, who lead in the low gross category despite that. This was a big field today. We ultimately had 75 players in stroke play. The President's Cup had nine first round matches decided. The second round is now underway. Those results are posted on the website entry for PC brackets.
The teams of (Bob Baker / Conrad Wilson), (Rich Swingle / Arnie Aparicio) and (Kent Pfeiffer / Tim Schilling) tied for first at 6 under par.
Our lowest gross scores of the day by flight are Steve Keith (70), Ron Plummer (80), Sean McGroarty (83) and Joe Mohney (89). The net leaders were Steve Lyons (67), Ron Plummer & Burnie Presho (tied at 72), Christie Whittemore, King LIng Wong & Don Walls (tied at 69), and Conrad Wilson (68).
Overall, 23 skins were awarded. Claiming a pair each were Ryan Haeger, Burnie Presho and Gerry Schomberg. Todd Danly captured two CTP's (#10 & #17).
Thanks to Bret Bauer for setting up and scoring this tournament. Thanks to everyone for playing and to those who let us know when they couldn't. We were able to offer slots to everyone who had been hanging on the waiting list until the end. Don Wall just made it in the day before and played quite well.
